Description
A multi-page printed prospectus issued by the genealogist and publisher Joseph Foster of 1A Ivy Lane, Paternoster Row, advertising his forthcoming Pedigrees of the Leading Lancashire Families, intended as a companion to the new edition of Baines's History of Lancashire, priced at two guineas (or three guineas for the large paper edition). The prospectus includes a "Second List" of nearly 300 families to be featured, headed by the Marquis of Salisbury and the Earls of Abingdon, Bradford, Crawford and Balcarres, Derby, Ellesmere, Nelson, Sefton, and Wilton, followed by baronets and country families from Abraham of Abram to Yarker of Ulverstone. Two specimen pages illustrate the format — the pedigrees of Barningham of Barningham and Brunskell of Bowes — each accompanied by a heraldic engraving of the family arms. The prospectus also advertises forthcoming editions of Whitaker's Richmondshire and a series of 25 Turner engravings, and is accompanied by two blank order forms dated 1872 to be returned via the subscriber's local bookseller. Folded for posting, lightly creased and foxed.
