Description
An autograph letter on printed stationery from the genealogical publisher Joseph Foster of 1A Ivy Lane, Paternoster Row, London, addressed to the Rev. F. R. Purvis, B.Ch., dated 5 June 1872. Foster requests Purvis's assistance in compiling the Nelson pedigree, asking him to fill up an enclosed form at his convenience, and adds that he would be glad to receive an order for a copy of the work. The left-hand leaf bears a printed "Important Notice" advising that the nearly 300 pedigrees in the forthcoming volume will include not only the lineal descents of each family but also the collateral branches of the last three or four generations, making it "a most entertaining handbook relative to the people of Lancashire." Folded for posting and lightly foxed.
