Description
A handwritten manuscript, likely nineteenth-century, recording the armorial bearings of various families connected by marriage or descent to the Purves (or Purvis) family. Arranged in a ruled tabular format, the document lists family names in the left column — including Child (afterward Earl of Tylney), English, Oadham, Baker, Fielding, Fisher, Ramey, Browne, Brett, Sowers, Allwyn/Allen/Allan, Dakins or Dakeyns, and Berry of Berry Nerber, Devon — alongside blazons describing each family's shield and crest in traditional heraldic language (gules, argent, sable, chevrons, lions rampant, griffins, and so on), with occasional genealogical annotations such as the reference to Sir John Berry of the time of Charles II. Several entries remain blank, suggesting the compilation was a work in progress. The paper shows folds, foxing, and a few ink blots consistent with age and handling.
