Vice Admiral John Child Purvis, at Vicar's Hill House, to Richard Fortescue Purvis, in India. John Child Purvis, then Vice-Admiral, writes to his son in India expressing relief that unfavourable reports concerning his character have proved unfounded. He notes that Mr Ricketts holds a favourable account of Richard’s conduct. The letter also provides updates on family and acquaintances, including reference to his cousin George Thomas Maitland Purvis, who is said to be proceeding to the Naval Academy.
