Customs Commission authorising Edmund Trodd, Divisional Carpenter in the Coastguard Service, to seize forfeitable goods, 15 November 1901

Description

A printed commission on vellum-like paper issued by the Commissioners of His Majesty's Customs at the Custom House, London, dated 15 November 1901 — the first year of the reign of King Edward VII — authorising Edmund Trodd, Divisional Carpenter in the Coastguard Service, to seize any goods, vessels, boats, horses, cattle, carriages, or other things liable to forfeiture under the laws relating to the Revenue of Customs, and requiring him afterwards to deliver any such seizures to the proper Officers of the Customs and to proceed in such manner as the law directs. The document is signed at the foot by two Commissioners of Customs and bears a further pencil signature ("Amperdown" or similar) along the right edge. Printed by HMSO (form HWV 200 1-01) and completed in manuscript with Trodd's name and the relevant dates, the warrant is heavily creased from folding for service-wear and shows some surface dirt and minor edge wear consistent with its having been carried by the officer to whom it was issued.
