Description
A printed Admiralty form (C.-23, Revised) recording the inspection of the Corton Detachment to Lowestoft, in the North Yarmouth Division of the Harwich District, with manuscript entries noting inspections by the Admiral Superintendent on 7 June 1901 and by the District Captain on 20 May 1902. Pre-printed sections cover the Protection of Revenue (three miles from Lowestoft Custom House, nil seizures of contraband, no special temptations to smuggling), Flank Stations (communication by telephone and patrol with North Yarmouth, eight miles distant), and headings for Wreck, Salvage, and Life Saving, together with a blank ruled table for the station's Buildings. Accompanying the form is a large folded muster sheet recording the service of Chief Officer George William Hicks (b. 2 September 1863, of London), including his postings at Reculver, Herne Bay, Cliffe Creek, Corton, Lowestoft, Brightlingsea, Hythe, and Calshot, and his promotions culminating in his appointment as Chief Officer in October 1911. The papers are creased from folding, lightly foxed, and worn at the edges.
